Artist statement

Throughout my life and art career, I have worked with many different mediums and styles.  From egg tempera and gouache to screenprinting and stone lithography, I have explored several realms of materials and processes of 2D artmaking.  Through all these mediums, however, I always circle back to the same theme: nature.

I have always been attracted to recreating and representing nature.  In the mountains, by a lake, under the trees, nature is where I feel most myself and most at ease.  Because of this sensation, it is irresistible, compelling, and almost inevitable that I want to paint landscapes.  I have created a multitude of scenes from nature with vast variations and series. Some have a more literal interpretation, some with just a hint or glimpse of a landscape, the sensation deriving only from certain colors or shapes.  I often start an abstract painting embodying the peaceful feeling of nature, and mindlessly apply color to the canvas, and miraculously others recognize it as a landscape.

We are all connected through this world’s environment; we all came from mother earth and we are all grounded to her soil.  As our planet deteriorates, it is important to capture the beauty and remind our fellow humans of our impact.
